Let me give a few updates for the season going forward to keep everyone up to speed:
*The freshmen season is starting to fill out! It looks like we will be able to bring our freshmen team to Beloit, Middleton, Memorial, and East. There is still hope that LaFollette and Fort will also add freshmen teams. For everyone new to the program; Middleton and West have been the only schools to field freshmen teams over the last five years, so this is exciting for our program and conference!
*It looks like varsity will be adding two more tournaments to the schedule. October 5th to Kenosha Tremper has a signed contract and there should be another contract to Green Bay WSW on October 19th. This brings us to 3 total tournament dates! We are also looking at beginning a yearly head-to-head against Appleton East. If there are any concerns with how late this would bring the kids home on a school night please voice those concerns! We would probably get home around 11pm on a school night.
*Now that the school year is beginning we will settle into our normal practice schedule. Varsity and Freshmen will practice right after school until 5:15pm. The JV will follow us practicing 5:15-6:45pm. MSCR then comes in and rents the gym so we cannot go later. This gives us an average of 1 hour less each day than most schools in our conference. I'm still working on creative ways to train longer. Look to the email going forward.
*Finally, I've been moving kids up and down from team to team this year. There is a large group of similar talents and we are trying to squeeze the most out of each player. I will be asking several kids to practice with both varsity after school and JV at 5:15pm. This results in more contacts and coaching for these players, and because West has limited gym time it doesn't add much more than other programs normally train their athletes. If any parents are concerned that their children aren't getting enough time for homework or rest please let me know.
